Death and the Maiden was a common allegorical motif in Northern Renaissance art and usually features a young woman being embraced by a skeleton representing death. This version is a mixture of that and a contemporary momento mori, with the young woman surrounded by contemporary signifiers of status and desire - Coffee cup and paper bag, vape pen, iphone and
socks and slippers.
